Transcribe a WhatsApp voice note

Transcribing is fine. Sorting is better.

Trying to transcribe a WhatsApp voice note to text? Good news: your phone already does it. Long-press the voice note, "Transcribe", and WhatsApp shows the word-for-word text, computed right on your device. For a thirty-second voice note, it's perfect. Use it.

Abrège Bot is here for the other cases. The ones where reading every word gets you no further than listening to them.

Three cases where word for word isn't enough

The long voice note. Forty lines of raw text is a read, not a time saver. Past two minutes of audio, you want a synthesis — not a transcript for the record.

The forwarded voice note. Transcription reproduces someone else's words in the first person, and it's on you to guess who wants what. Abrège Bot understands that this "I" is the person talking, and the summary tells you what they're after. No mental gymnastics.

The voice note waiting on a reply. A transcript doesn't answer for you. The bot does: every summary ends with a suggested reply. Copy it, tweak it, sent.

Where does the transcribed text go?

To you, and nowhere else. The bot transcribes the audio just long enough to produce the summary, then deletes everything: the audio, the text, the summary. Nothing is archived, nothing feeds model training — the privacy policy spells out the path. A voice note can run up to 15 minutes; past that, the bot asks for a shorter clip.
